Bruges 1999

Since the last newsletter a number of us "on road off/roadies" went on a weekend break to France and Belgium on our street legal, (well nearly), bikes. There were ten RRNDMC members and partners and we were joined on the ferry by my friends Greg and Mavra from Surrey HOG.

We arrived at the Motorcycle Loft Hotel on Friday evening, spent a sunny Saturday in Bruges at a brewery, seeing the sites and in the shops. On Sunday Bruce and Margaret set out for Germany while the rest of us went off for a relaxed rideout in northern Belgium and France. Then it was a quick blast along the motorway to catch the ferry.

Without going into the gory details I managed to get the group lost a few times. In the dark on the back roads of France, at a diversion in Belgium, and due to a cunningly constructed look alike canal bridge. In the day light I did a little better except near Ypres when it would appear that I was the only person who didn’t see the Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery we had decided to visit. I would like to thank the group for their persistent good humour at these little excursions and for their generous appreciation of my efforts. Perhaps we will go again next year!
